These elegant sake cups are handcrafted by artisans in the Hasami region of Japan. The talented artists have hand-painted the intricate arabesque landscape scenes using a rich, time-honored indigo color. The result nods to Japan’s storied past—the centuries-old shape used in the sake cup finished with edo-era-inspired scenes. While the earthenware is ideal for containing the warm sake’s heat, the carefully shaped cup fits perfectly into your hand. This arabesque pattern can also be found in matching JOC Goods sake pourer, which makes an ideal gift set.

Sake Cup

Japanese sake cups are small drinking cups that come in a variety of shapes and sizes for ceremonial occasions to everyday use. The most common type is o-choko, a smaller cup that often comes in a set with a carafe (tokkuri). Another popular type is the slightly larger guinomi. Sake cups are made from clay, porcelain, glass, lacquerware, and even tin. A cup's material and shape are said to affect the aroma and flavor of the sake. These cups are a popular collectible tableware item.

Hasami ware

The lineage of Hasami ware porcelain dates back over 400 years, and modern artisans still use many of the same time-honored methods to create their stunning pieces. Hasami ware, originating from the town of Hasami, shares close ties to porcelain from the Arita region of Japan, but each style produces itsown unique pieces.
