This rimmed pasta bowl of beautiful white Shino ware (yukishino) has an understated earthy character. The thick, satin white glaze has a crawling pattern that reveals the mottled brown and green undertones and rough texture of the stoneware pottery. Shino ware is a type of Mino ware that has deep historical roots; it developed during the Momoyama period (1568–1600) and created the first white glaze used in Japanese ceramics. The classic rustic style of this deep plate will complement pasta, Japanese curry, stews, and more.

Mino ware refers to pottery traditionally made in Japan’s eastern Gifu Prefecture, primarily in Tajimi, Toki, Mizunami, and Kani. This ancient method of producing elegant, durable ceramics has roots going back over 1300 years to Japan’s Kofun period in the 7th century. Typically found nested into the mountainsides, the unique kilns used to produce Mino ware are often referred to as anagama kilns, and the master artisans producing these stunning products continue to adhere to rigid standards to produce only the highest quality ceramics. We offer a flat rate of USD $25 for shipping to the U.S., and Free Shipping on orders over USD $199.
