This medium round dish of Arita ware porcelain is produced by Ojiyama Kiln. Using the sometsuke technique, artisans brush-paint the delicate outlines of a chrysanthemum flower onto a white background before the pieces are fired to a glossy transparent finish. An important cultural motif of Japan, the elegant and timeless chrysanthemum pattern complements a wide range of foods and table settings. Arita porcelain originates from an area known as Arita on the Island of Kyushu, Japan.
