This medium round salad plate of beautiful white Shino ware (yukishino) has an understated earthy character. The thick, satin white glaze has a crawling pattern that reveals the mottled brown and green undertones and rough texture of the stoneware pottery. Shino ware is a type of Mino ware that has deep, historical roots; it developed during the Momoyama period (1568–1600) and created the first white glaze used in Japanese ceramics. The classic rustic style of this plate will complement your salads, ichiju sansai main dishes, and apptizers.

Mino ware refers to pottery traditionally made in Japan’s eastern Gifu Prefecture, primarily in Tajimi, Toki, Mizunami, and Kani. This ancient method of producing elegant, durable ceramics has roots going back over 1300 years to Japan’s Kofun period in the 7th century.
