This Arita ware round sauce dish by Shobido Honten is decorated in the Ko-Imari style popularized during the Edo period (1603–1868). This piece features the handcrafted somenishiki technique in which red, green, and gold overglaze porcelain is applied by artisans to blue and white porcelain. Here, lush peonies and chrysanthemums adorn the golden brocade ring layered on an indigo diamond pattern below, creating a truly gorgeous effect.
