The rice bowl, called ochawan (お茶碗) or simply chawan, is the most personal element among Japanese tableware. In Japan, each family member typically has their own personal rice bowl that they choose based on preference for portion size, material, and design. They may change bowls to match the season or occasion, too. For a bowl that holds a standard one-cup (150 g, 5.3 oz) serving of Japanese steamed rice, choose one that's 4.7 inches (12 cm) across and 2.4 inches (6 cm) high. For a smaller serving size (130 g, 4.6 oz), we recommend a bowl that's about 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) across and 2.3 inches (5.7 cm) high.Mino Ware
Mino ware refers to pottery traditionally made in Japan’s eastern Gifu Prefecture, primarily in Tajimi, Toki, Mizunami, and Kani. This ancient method of producing elegant, durable ceramics has roots going back over 1300 years to Japan’s Kofun period in the 7th century.
