The Japanese incense culture was introduced from India and China along with Buddhism around the 6th century. Initially, incense was used in temples for religious ceremonies. However, during the Heian period (794–1185), nobles began creating "takimono," blends of aromatic materials, to scent their rooms and clothing. In the Edo period (1603–1868), incense stick manufacturing techniques were introduced from China, leading to widespread use among the general populace. Today, incense is cherished for relaxation and enhancing living spaces, reflecting Japan's unique aesthetic and lifestyle.

Arita porcelain originates from an area known as Arita on the Island of Kyushu, Japan. It is known as the birthplace of fine Japanese porcelain, and the artisans of Arita have produced exceptional ceramic works for more than 400 years. The beautiful contrast between the porcelain and the hand-painting is obtained by using exceptionally high-quality porcelain stone, allowing the glazed surface to display a distinct glossy mirror with a rich ivory luster.
