These wonderfully sweet-smelling osmanthus incense sticks use premium sandalwood and select aromatics to recreate the floral notes of Japanese osmanthus blossoms. The flowering osmanthus is also known as ‘tea olive’ or ‘fragrant olive.’ These incense sticks have perfectly captured the honey-apricot aromas of flowering osmanthus, and the size of the sticks makes them ideal for use on a formal altar or just day-to-day aromatics. Each package of incense includes a small fold-out aluminum holder to support the incense—please note that the supplied incense holder does not capture the ash from the incense. JOC Goods also carries a full range of quality incense holders that perfectly complement these quality incense sticks, offering a refined and elegant vessel for your incense sticks. Each incense holder that JOC carries is designed to securely hold incense sticks and neatly capture the ash.

Japanese Incense

The Japanese incense culture was introduced from India and China along with Buddhism around the 6th century. Initially, incense was used in temples for religious ceremonies. However, during the Heian period (794–1185), nobles began creating "takimono," blends of aromatic materials, to scent their rooms and clothing. This marked a shift from religious to secular use, integrating incense into daily life. In the Edo period (1603–1868), incense stick manufacturing techniques were introduced from China, leading to widespread use among the general populace. Today, incense is cherished for relaxation and enhancing living spaces, reflecting Japan's unique aesthetic and lifestyle.
