This Geometric Tortoise Shell Mini Sauce Dish features a traditional tortoiseshell design that dates back centuries. Combining classical hand-painting techniques and patterns in a modern fluted shape, the dish showcases delicate pastel blues accented with imperial red and deep blue. Hand-painted on high-gloss Arita porcelain, this stunning piece reflects the time-honored methods of Arita artisans. The tortoiseshell, or kikko design, originated during the time of the Japanese shoguns, with softened rigid lines for a more modernist appeal.

Arita porcelain originates from an area known as Arita on the Island of Kyushu, Japan. It is known as the birthplace of fine Japanese porcelain, and the artisans of Arita have produced exceptional ceramic works for more than 400 years. The beautiful contrast between the porcelain and the hand-painting is obtained by using exceptionally high-quality porcelain stone, allowing the glazed surface to display a distinct glossy mirror with a rich ivory luster.
