This cute-as-a-button empress doll conceals a fun side; she is actually a condiment dish, too! Handcrafted by talented artisans from the Arita region, this little empress is all dressed up and ready to hold court over your table. The vibrant colours and playful features make this piece a fabulous smile-maker for your home.

JOC Goods proudly curates these empress condiment dishes from kilns where the ancient arts of porcelain crafting are still practised using time-honoured methods. This artisanal crafting method means that each piece speaks to the artist’s individuality, with no two pieces being the same. JOC Goods also stocks the matching pair for this little empress—her suitably attired emperor, also concealing a condiment dish.

Condiment Bowl

These small bowls come in many shapes and serve different purposes. They are generally suitable for condiments, dry seasonings like salt, garnishes, toppings, soy sauce for sashimi, pickles, small delicacies, and butter and jam. Deeper small dishes shaped like a cup are suitable for noodle dipping sauce. Tiny bowls are a popular size to collect thanks to their visual interest, compact size, and usefulness.

Arita Ware

Arita porcelain originates from an area known as Arita on the Island of Kyushu, Japan. It is known as the birthplace of fine Japanese porcelain, and the artisans of Arita have produced exceptional ceramic works for more than 400 years. The beautiful contrast between the porcelain and the hand-painting is obtained by using exceptionally high-quality porcelain stone, allowing the glazed surface to display a distinct glossy mirror with a rich ivory luster.
