Yamanaka lacquerware dates back to 1580 when highly skilled kimono-koji (wood-turning) artisans settled in the village of Masago - today’s Ishikawa Prefecture of Japan. World-famous for their intricately carved wooden pieces, Yamanaka artisans are renowned for the rich lacquer that they use to painstakingly seal and decorate their pieces.
