This ramen bowl is a lovely example of Mino ware pottery. Artisans have carefully decorated this bowl with a traditional ripple wave pattern in indigo pigment against a crisp white porcelain background. The angular sides converge with the base's medium brown accent, giving this high-gloss piece a warm yet modern design. Ramen Bowl

This type of large bowl is ideal for serving noodle soup dishes like Japanese ramen, udon, and soba. Called ramen bachi (ラーメン鉢), they come in a variety of shapes and styles like fan-shaped, trumpet-shaped, high-footed, wide-mouthed, or multipurpose. Flatter and wider bowls typically hold more soup, noodles, and toppings. A ramen bowl also works for other types of dishes like pho, pasta, and entreé salads.

Mino Ware

Mino ware refers to pottery traditionally made in Japan’s eastern Gifu Prefecture, primarily in Tajimi, Toki, Mizunami, and Kani. This ancient method of producing elegant, durable ceramics has roots going back over 1300 years to Japan’s Kofun period in the 7th century. Typically found nested into the mountainsides, the unique kilns used to produce Mino ware are often referred to as anagama kilns, and the master artisans producing these stunning products continue to adhere to rigid standards to produce only the highest quality ceramics.
